About the Orange Jersey Project
The Orange Jersey Project began with a simple idea: what if sports could help educate young athletes? The project encourages action for truth and reconciliation. It teaches athletes about the real history of Indian Residential Schools in Canada. It also raises awareness of how these schools have affected Indigenous families for generations. The goal is to improve the level of understanding between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people.
To Register
Registration gives you access to all the learning materials. Registration also allows you to receive a certificate once the course is completed. It also ensures that we have the necessary consent and information based on who is eligible to provide it.
General FAQs
The children’s, junior youth, and youth versions of the course have similarities and differences. The content and stories are similar, but are tailored to their specific age group in different ways.
When an athlete registers, the learning management system remembers their age and sport. The course that best fits their needs is then enabled for their account.
How long the course takes to complete will vary from person to person, so the times below are only an estimate.
Children’s version | 45 min |
Junior Youth version | 45 min |
Youth version | 60 min |
We recommend that children and youth take as much time as needed. They are also welcome to revisit any part of it as much as they like.
There are versions of this course for three sports:
- Hockey (First course available now, and all three by the end of 2024)
- Football (Coming in 2025)
- Lacrosse (Coming in 2025)
There are future plans for additional versions of the course that cover other sports. Please check the website https://orangejerseyproject.ca/ for further updates.
This course is open to any athletes, parents or coaches who are registered.
Logging in helps you in two ways:
- Tracking: When you log in, the learning management system (LMS) keeps track of where you are in the course. If you step away and return, it will remember where you last left off.
- Certificate: When you log in, the LMS keeps track of your completion of the course. When you finish, you will receive a certificate.
