General
The children’s, junior youth, and youth versions of the course have similarities and differences. The content and stories are similar, but are tailored to their specific age group in different ways.
When an athlete registers, the learning management system remembers their age and sport. The course that best fits their needs is then enabled for their account.
How long the course takes to complete will vary from person to person, so the times below are only an estimate.
| Children’s version | 45 min |
| Junior Youth version | 45 min |
| Youth version | 60 min |
We recommend that children and youth take as much time as needed. They are also welcome to revisit any part of it as much as they like.
There are versions of this course for three sports:
- Hockey
- Football
- Lacrosse
There are future plans for additional versions of the course that cover other sports. Please check the website https://orangejerseyproject.ca/ for further updates.
This course is open to any athletes, parents or coaches who are registered.
Logging in helps you in two ways:
- Tracking: When you log in, the learning management system (LMS) keeps track of where you are in the course. If you step away and return, it will remember where you last left off.
- Certificate: When you log in, the LMS keeps track of your completion of the course. When you finish, you will receive a certificate.
For Parents
The content in the Orange Jersey Project may be emotionally triggering, especially for those with personal or family connections to the history of Indian Residential Schools. Topics such as trauma, racism, and intergenerational impacts can evoke feelings of sadness, anger, guilt, or discomfort. Indigenous participants may experience heightened emotions related to their lived experiences, while non-Indigenous participants may find the content challenging as it confronts difficult truths about colonialism. To support participants, we recommend practicing self-care, seeking support if needed, and approaching the material with empathy and respect.
While supervision is not required, it is recommended during registration for kids under the age of 13. We also recommend you support your child as they go through the content. This will help reinforce the concepts they are learning.
For younger kids: You can support your child by helping them register and by encouraging their participation at their own pace. You can take the course along with them and discuss the various topics along the way. Consider supporting them to find ways to be an ally to Indigenous peoples.
For older kids: Discuss the topics covered in the course. Support them as they explore ways to be an ally for truth and reconciliation efforts.
If you have more than one child to register, please create separate accounts for each child using a unique user name each time. You may use the same email address for each account–or a different one.
No, registration and access to the courses are free of charge.
The courses focus on truth and reconciliation, the history and impacts of residential schools, how sports can promote healing and positive change, and how to be an ally for truth, reconciliation, and Indigenous justice.
Please note that your email will not be used for purposes other than relaying learning status. You will not receive emails from this Learning Hub outside of badge notifications, certificate updates, or prizes being won by the athlete.
